My friend Justin van hoy, proprietor of This Los angeles, an art gallery in LA, asked me if would like to be apart of this show, that opens friday in LA. of course i said yes and sent the art to LA a few weeks ago. if anybody out there reading this is in LA, or heading to LA, go see this show, i am sure it will be inspiring. justin is a great artist and knows how to put on a show.

anyone who knows me, knows that i am a huge tom waits fan. been listening to tom for half my life and savor every recording and movie that comes out. my good friend, the paddle ball king, steve langley, sent me this illustration. unfortunately i do not know who produced it but i liked it. thanks king.

Cool Inside: Hank’s Seafood Restaurant is a comprehensive look at the inner workings, personnel, history, as well as a plethora of recipes of this reknowned local Charleston restaurant. Hank Holiday came to gsgd over 12 years ago to design the identity for Hank’s Seafood Restaurant, based on historic seafood restaurants of the past. Needless to say this fine eating establishment has been a rousing success. So to celebrate 10 years and it’s preeminent chef, Frank McMahon, Hank approached us again to design THE book. 256 pages later, a week in iceland press checking and now the finished product has arrived! My main man Mark Lawrence, did a beautiful job on this monster as well as the great photographer P.Frank Edwards, writer Melissa Bigner, gourmand Brys Stephens, editor Pete Wyrick and last but certainly not least Hank and Frank. You guys are the best! The books will be available for purchase at the Charleston Wine & Food Festival. Make sure to get one for you and one for someone special. It’s cool inside.

The Avett Bros put on an excellent show last night(as usual) at the N. Chas Coliseum. Robin, tillye, nick and i rocked out with a 5000 other fans thanks to my friend carter mcmillan for hooking me up with some excellent tickets. thanks bro, you’re the best. g

awendaw green at the hippodrome

the folks at awendaw green have combined efforts with the folks at the hippodrome downtown to bring great live music to a unique venue. make sure you get your tickets early because this will be a big time and from what i hear about live music at the hippodrome—it is the shit.

New Orleans 2012

Our final night we went to the candlelight lounge to hear the treme brass band. they play there every weds night. a rare musical experience. red beans and rice and traditional new orleans brass band music. met and hung with lionel babtista who turns 80 today. happy birthday lionel! wish we could be there for your party. (and schmengy, i thought of you–you would have been in heaven) i have more nawlins pics that i will slowly drip out. that’s it for now.

hit some great junk stores while visiting the crescent city. man, i have this love affair with old silkscreened glasses and we found the motherlode. i’m gonna have to take a road trip next time to bring back all the schwagg.
